A Foodie’s Restaurant Guide for Fuerteventura

restaurant_fuerteventura

Although Fuerteventura is not known as a foodie destination, I know that good food can be discovered anywhere. I just had to dig a little bit deeper.

For me, food and travel are inseparable companions. It’s a wonderful relationship that are complexly intertwined. Wherever we go, we need to eat right? It became my primary fascination with a new location, as it is the soul and culture of the locals’ everyday life.

There are huge numbers of restaurants along the marina on the island of Fuerteventura, however it is quite hard to decipher which is better than the next. I am here to help you pick the best restaurants to complete your island experience. We stayed around the town of Corralejo, so unfortunately it’s slightly location biased!

Restaurante Avenida

C / General Prim 11, Corralejo

At this restaurant, it is packed with the happy faces of the local Canarian crowd. It’s a local favourite because of the quality and quantity of food served up in the superbly efficient open kitchen. With a rustic atmosphere, expect the portions here to be very honest, so think twice about ordering three courses. I had the biggest seafood paella between 2 people, and each king prawn was the size of my hand. Punched with flavour, it is a must try.

La Playita

Calle General Garcia Escamez, Corralejo

La Playita is located right on the lovely marina with views out into the vast ocean. It is a lovely spot to spend an afternoon looking at the views while dining on grilled sole with garlic and prawn sauce, or serrano ham served with melon, paired with reasonably priced but very good Spanish wine. If it gets chilly at night, they provide comfy blankets and outdoor heater to keep your conversation flowing.

El Andaluz

Calle La Ballena 5, Corralejo

A small and intimate restaurant that always get packed up easily, so booking is essential. Situated in the Northern end of the harbour, this restaurant offers fine dining in a casual atmosphere. There is a four-course menu priced at 19 Euros, which is such a steal.

El Mirador

Calle Muelle de los Pescadores 19

Want the best seafood on this island? This place is situated on the picturesque harbour. A fresh plate of fish will be presented to you by the staff to explain what is the offering of the day from the sea. Grilled to perfection with a selection of herbs, the taste will tempt you to go back for more, again.

The Ugly Duckling

Calle Isla de Lobos 2, Corralejo

A restaurant with a cute name definitely stands out amongst its Spanish neighbours. This place only serves flavourful Danish specialty, which is a nice break from all the tapas and grilled fish. A meal that starts with complimentary cava is always a nice touch, as is one that ends with liquorice shots rather than the typical honey Canarian rum.
