The Lansdowne Club – A Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding

It was finally the day of our Great Gatsby inspired wedding at the Lansdowne Club in Mayfair London.

In a flash of our eyes, it was the day of our wedding at the Lansdowne Club. Everything was ready downstairs and it was now my turn to walk towards our wedding ceremony room. All I could think about was this poem from the winter of 2007, 8 years ago in NYC…

“We walked through almost every corner of the city. Stuffed ourselves with memories of food and laughter. Created a scrapbook in our minds. As the countdown continued, “10, 9, 8….” I thought about this year, the next.

Hopes for 2008. Hopes for beyond. We talked about many things. We couldn’t stop talking. Two minds driven with ambition and hope. The change of name, the dedication to the creation of a new self, the passionate belief in unselfish devotion. The heart.

The ferry could be romantic, especially at night. I remember being in love, being tired, being merry. The speed at which the boat goes, neither too fast nor too slow, the boat’s lulling rise and fall, the steady vibration of the engine felt to the bone, the crisp air pungent with salt and tar, the steady procession of bridges and skylines — all this is indeed conductive to thinking. Click. Click. Pictures being taken.

Huddled together for warmth on the darkened river lit up by sparkling lights.

Slowly, the ramp came down. As we stepped onto shore, taking one look at the skyline, Manhattan, we were part of you tonight.

A hug. Tearful goodbye. Time does not wait. Be strong, he said.

Tonight we are both all smiles. Tonight we are having a celebration.”

Our Love Story in London

Mr. New Yorker and I met while I was a wide-eyed study abroad student in London. I was only going to stay for one year in this city, at least that was what I told myself. But after we met, all my plans were thrown into the mix and the course of our lives changed forever. 7 transatlantic flights and a year of long-distance-Skype-calls relationship later, I moved to London permanently.

Planning for the Big Day at the Lansdowne Club

On 13th September 2015, we finally decided to make this a formal affair and tied the knot in the presence of the lovely Westminster Council with all of our close family and friends.

We chose the Lansdowne Club, a private member’s club in the heart of Green Park filled with beautiful art deco details and interiors we fell in love with. Every second of the day was much more perfect than we had hoped for, with the assistance of Simon’s fabulous MC/brother Ian, and the ever-so-helpful staff at the venue.

Given my background as a digital strategist, of course we had to have a hashtag for the day, hence #LauriMon2015 was born. Check out the hashtag on Instagram and Twitter to see spontaneous moments of the day.

Our Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding

Our wedding at the Lansdowne Club was largely inspired by our love of the old-school glamor of the 1920’s in monochrome and one of my favourite books of all time, ‘The Great Gatsby’. We are both inspired by Gatsby. Despite all of his imaginary faults, he had an extraordinary ability to transform his hopes and dreams into reality.

Great Gatsby Wedding Invitations

We also needed some art deco styled invitations to lock down our guest’s calendars. Here is a sample of a beautiful and decadent invitation.

My Great Gatsby Themed Wedding Dress

My dress by the Paris designer Cymbeline was sourced via a rare vintage buy opportunity; I couldn’t believe how lucky I was! When I tried it on, I knew immediately that this was “the one”. The black ribbon contrasted beautifully with the soft layer of lace over the entire dress, all of which were painstakingly hand sewn on each layer.

This was the perfect dress with art deco details, for the Great Gatsby wedding crowd.

To complete the look, I paired my dress with simple accessories gathered from around the web. A pair of simple pearl earrings, minimalist Reiss strappy heels in a soft powder colour, and lastly a pearl head piece from the talented wedding stylist Joanne Liu. Finally, an elegant diamond pendant given to me from the Mother-in-law on the day. You know what they say, “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something powder pink(or blue)!”

My wedding photographers Cat and Graham are an amazing creative duo and one of a kind. Their images and work are just stunning. Looking back at these photos, we were able to relive each moment again, through the joy, tears, and laughter shared with everyone. We are grateful for these wonderful memories captured on camera to be remembered forever.

Below are some snapshots of our favourite moments and we just want to share them with you!
